“Raise a Glass, Fund a Scholarship” Program to Support Future Grape Growers and Winemakers

Woodinville, Wash.

Washington's founding winery Chateau Ste. Michelle is partnering with Washington restaurants to support the ninth annual "Raise a Glass, Fund a Scholarship" program to benefit Viticulture and Enology programs at Washington State University and other Northwest universities. More than 200 restaurants will participate in the "Raise a Glass, Fund a Scholarship" program which runs through the end of December 2016.

FIRST U.S. EXHIBITION OF DELLA ROBBIA SCULPTURES TRAVELS TO NATIONAL GALLERY OF ART, WASHINGTON

More than 500 years after their creation, Della Robbia terracotta sculptures endure as some of the most innovative and expressive examples of art from the Italian Renaissance. On view at the National Gallery of Art, Washington, West Building from February 5 through June 4, 2017, Della Robbia: Sculpting with Color in Renaissance Florence is the first major American exhibition dedicated to works by three generations of the Della Robbia family and their competitors. The exhibition travels to the Gallery, the only other venue, after premiering at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (MFA) from August 9 to December 4, 2016.

Chateau Ste. Michelle named Wine & Spirits magazine “Top 100 Wineries of the Year” award for the 22nd time, the most of any producer in the United States

The magazine article highlighted Chateau Ste. Michelle's impressive wine quality and consistency, particularly with Riesling.

“Chateau Ste. Michelle, Washington State’s oldest and largest winery, has earned 22 Top 100 awards, the most of any producer in the United States. Michelle is one of the driving forces behind riesling’s global renaissance and is, in fact, the world’s largest riesling producer. Most of this volume consists of affordable, reliable appellation wines – dry and off-dry versions. Introducing INTRINSIC™ Wine Co.: A New Style of Cabernet Sauvignon

Paterson, WA

Today marks the official launch of INTRINSIC™ Wine Co., a raw yet elegant wine from the famed Columbia Valley in Washington State that was produced using a technique called “extreme” extended maceration. INTRINSIC has tremendous complexity because the core of the wine stayed in contact with the grape skins for approximately nine months after harvest. Typical red wine from Washington State spends less than one month on the skins. This prolonged skin contact created a wine that is undeniably unique.

Acclaimed INTRINSIC winemaker, Juan Muñoz-Oca, does not shy away from experimentation or pushing the boundaries of conventional winemaking. For years he has been experimenting with extreme extended maceration. Despite the risk of potentially ruining the grapes if his hypothesis proved incorrect, he believed more could be extracted from the grape skins to create additional layers and depth in the wine. After much trial and error, he crafted an avant-garde style of Cabernet Sauvignon with mellowed tannins and a smooth texture.
